Customer Support

United Way Campaign

We make it a priority to be active members of the communities we serve, from supporting important community organizations through direct financial contributions, to encouraging employee volunteerism and matching their charitable donations. Our commitment to community is especially evident in our annual United Way campaign.

We have a longstanding tradition of support for United Way, and each year our employees and retirees participate through donation pledges, fundraising events, and volunteering. Our campaign reaches nearly 100 United Way chapters across our eight state territory and is highlighted time and again by our employees as one of the most fun and most meaningful parts of working for Xcel Energy, and 2018 was no different.

One for the Books: Our 2018 Campaign

2018 United Way Campaign Raised $4.9 Million

Because of the amazing generosity of employees at Xcel Energy, hundreds of families, children and individuals will benefit from the total amount raised from this year's United Way campaign. Combined with matching funds from the Xcel Energy Foundation, the United Way chapters and other community organizations in our service territories will receive a total investment of $4.9 million from the eight-week campaign.

While each organization that receives donations through this campaign offers something unique, the total amount being donated is equivalent to more than 9.8 million meals to hungry families and more than 1.47 million nights of emergency shelter to people who do not have the comfort and warmth of their own homes.

"I am proud of what Xcel Energy as a company has accomplished during this year's campaign," said Darla Figoli, senior vice president, Chief Human Resources Officer and 2018 United Way Campaign Chair. "I want to give a huge 'thank you' to everyone who participated. It is because of your generosity that our local nonprofits and United Way agencies will be able to deliver the important services that are crucial to uplifting those who are most downtrodden in our society. By providing that extra aid and a helping hand, we not only encourage them, but also help them believe there are better days ahead. Thank you for your support and for choosing to Live United."

We Have Fun Making a Difference

United Way volunteeringWe like to get creative when raising money for our annual United Way campaign. Bake sales, chili cook-offs, golf tournaments, and “office Olympics” are a few fun ways we engage our employees in our fundraising efforts. Ultimately we know these events and our donations help provide children with warm winter coats, prevent families from going hungry, offer job training assistance, and more.

In addition to our in-office fundraising efforts, we participated in dozens of local events across our service areas to boost interest in our campaign.

Since the launch of our partnership in 2016, we’ve generated 1,529 United Way community member volunteer leads. Our energy efficiency engagement efforts lead us to collaborating with the Greater Twin Cities United Way in more ways than one, resulting in efforts on all fronts to give back to the community. In addition to Xcel Energy’s in-office fundraising efforts, we participated in dozens of local events across our service area to boost interest in our campaign.

Xcel Energy volunteersAction Day

Employees each year come together to support the Greater Twin Cities United Way Action Day. Action Day 2018 was hosted by the Minnesota Lynx and Minnesota Timberwolves at Target Center. More than 3,000 volunteers from local companies and nonprofits packed over 25,000 backpacks on August 9.

Energy Saving Tip

Create your own shade by planting a tree in a strategic location in your yard to block sunlight from pouring into your windows. It doesn't get much more green than a tree!

Break Ground, Not the Law

Always call 811 before digging in your yard to avoid hitting buried gas or electric lines. Not only is it the safe thing to do, but it's the law.
