Take a leaf Martin........

Postby Viloon on Thu Jul 29, 2010 11:47 am

I hate the red nose b'stard, but you gotta give it to him, he does things right. Come on MON, give the kidz a chance.

ALEX FERGUSON is backing Manchester United's whizkids - rather than spend millions in the transfer market.

Boss Fergie insists the future of the club is in their own backyard with youngsters like Federico Macheda, Tom Cleverley, Javier Hernandez, Chris Smalling and the Da Silva twins, Rafael and Fabio.

The new Old Trafford brat pack are all waiting to burst on to the Premier League stage this season.

Manchester City are edging closer to spending £100million this summer.

But Ferguson insisted: "I've got probably 12 players all under 21, which is a fantastic average age, and the future should be pretty secure with them.

"Over the years we've bought players for quite high amounts like Dimitar Berbatov, Rio Ferdinand, Juan Sebastian Veron and Wayne Rooney. But we try to equate how we're going to get the proper value before we do it.

"When I see some of the values now, and you're talking about players at £40m or £30m-odd, we have to assess our own players first.

"We take a quite good view of it now and say let's look at our own young players.

"Have they got the ability? How much can we trust them? Do we see a top player in that young player?

"And we're not bad, you know. There are some good young players who have come through the system.

"They understand the club, they're loyal to the club, and we can build on that."

Cynics might suggest United are keeping their hands in their pockets because the money simply is not there as the Glazers have saddled the club with a £717m debt.

But Ferguson also argues that spending big can actually turn supporters off.

He added: "The enormous amounts of money players are paid, not just for the transfer fees but for their salaries - I don't think it rests easy with supporters."

"At Manchester United we don't just build a footballer in terms of ability, we try to build their character to make them better human beings and to understand their responsibilities.

"The response I've had over the years has been good.

"The younger players and even the older ones have given a great response to the demands of the job.

"They understand their job and I think that's important."

Maybe he will this season ! He`s already said Fonz will play more this coming season . And in Preseason Albrighton , Bannon, Lichaj & Weimann look as if now is the time to start making more use of them .

So what`s holding him back ? Maybe those fans who demand big names ,and who all too readily are quick to criticise poor results and to get on the case of players who are not an instant success or who make the odd mistake !

Well Fergie has proved many times that "kids" can compete at the top level, but they have had some of the best "kids" in the buissness for some years now. But they have spent big to bolster the squad.

The truth is imo, that United just havn't got the funds to spend as the Glazers are trying to reduce there own personal debt. Cause i'm sure if the old regeim was still in charge, Fergie would of used alot of that Ronado money to streghen. Plus they NEED big name signings to prove to the world that they are the biggest club. And defencively they look week, an area where Fergie has always spent big !!

I feel our own youth/reserves are ready to step up, but only MON can decide this. Personally I think its the way forward.

If you look at the players on the verge of breaking through, does anybody really feel as though spending millions on Good (not brillient) players can do a better job......I don't think so !!

If MON came out and said Albrighton, The Fonz, Weimann, Lihaj, Lowry, Delphinho (when fit) ect, ect would play a large part in all competitions, then personally I wouldn't be that bothered if we didn't sign more than one addition, and thats is Milner leaves.

^^MON doesn't seem the type to really not bring youth through because of the fans......If he doesn't use the youth its simply because he and his staff do not rate them highly enough, not because shelley wants iniesta or I hate a couple of our players. There is life outside these forums you know............now wheres that door.

Ah but that`s only part of the whole picture ! MON got very upset @ the start of the season when the booing started and he apeared worried that failure would lead to even more booing ,and I suspect that lead to a reluctance to make changes, and to go with the tried and tested regulars . And as the season progressed and the possibility of a top 4 place @ times got tantalisingly close, that reluctance to change from the regular increased, lest change brought failure .
Villa are @ the crossroads between becoming a successfull top 4 club with a squad to match and without ManC`s billions distorting the tranfer market may well have made that transition and had the extra income that being a top 4 side brings . But for now the club will have to remain @ those cross roads and be a club that is neither one of the elite or one of the also rans below the top 6 , and that is harder for a manager than one in either of the groups above or below where Villa is @

^^^^ I understand what you say, but I've just never considered MON to alter from his own path due to outside influence (barring the chairman obviously). A true manager will be strong enough to make decisions based on his own judgment, even if it goes completely against the fans as you live and die by this, not what people who go to a game each week think. If the decisions you are making are right for the club, eventually it will shine through and even more praise will be heaped on the manager if its for something that only the minority agreed with in the first place. I really don't think MON didnt rotate last year because of fan power, its because he didnt have faith in the bench.

But not having faith in the bench is virtually the same as relying on the known and not the unknown , it`s only how one interprets it ! Success is what everyone wants , but a draw is better than no points .
But going back to the comment about not having no faith in the bench or was it that the options on the bench were not always there . There was always plenty of defensive options but @ times it seemed few others

Spot on, as someone else said, it was Heskey - Carew, or vice versa, with sidders bringin his ginger nut on now & again. I'll feel much better come Sept 1st, im sure I will see attacking options sat on the bench then, hopefully a mix of experience and youth.

I still feel he needs to experiemnt more with youth but saying that, he did start with Delph against Wigan. Clark, Fonz, Alrighton etc.. all got a shout last year, but no one really got injured for them to try and stake a claim. We only lost a handful of games. So there was no need to drasticly ever change. our problwem was the fact we couldnt convert chances into goals when we're dominating.
