Villa Dominant despite Friendly Loss

Postby TanserMan on Sat Jul 24, 2010 5:31 pm

Aston Villa today crashed to defeat against Bohemians, despite dominating possession and having a succession of chances in front of goal.

Bohemians took the lead on twenty minutes when Connor Powell made the most of a Friedel clearance that went horribly wrong, leaving the defender enough time to lob the ball over him into the net. After the interval John Carew, Carlos Cuellar, and Habib Beye came on for Eric Lichaj, Ciaran Clark and Gabriel Agbonlahor, which proved to spring the game into life.

A fantastic run and cross by Albrighton down the left opened up the Bohemians defence and John Carew was on hand to head it home in front of the Villa supporters. Moments later another peach of a delivery from Albrighton, this time from the right, found Carew in the box but his header sailed wide. Barry Bannan came on to good effect just after Carew’s goal and came close to scoring on a couple of occasions, looking sharp around the eighteen yard box.

Enzo though, against the run of play, scored with ten minutes to go after turning Dunne and exchanging passes on the edge of the area to slot it past the helpless Friedel.

Villa’s next game is against Walsall on Tuesday when stars such as James Milner, Brad Guzan, Emile Heskey and Stephen Warnock return to the fold after having extended leave due to their World Cup involvement.

bohs were actually miles better than Villa... at times you would have thought THEY were the Premiership team. Left us chasing shadows for long periods in the second half.

Villa were pretty poor alright! Did anyone else notice the black things on Ash Young's knees? What were they?
