    Leeds v Aston Villa

Think a bit of rotation needs to come. We looked very tired on Friday, Davis battled but was ineffective, Onomah was anonymous, nothing worked for him, and Adomah couldn't do much with how Taylor was being targeted. Unfortunate we've no other real options up front, but there's options there for midfield and Landsbury and Grealish should come in to help freshen things up. Important thing was to not lose, keep the undefeated run going for as long as possible, those couple points will be invaluable come April.

Annoying. It was the first shirt I ever had. Christmas present! They had it for 2 years from 87-89. Quite hard to find that one around for sale!

There is a lot of talk that United have triggered a clause in Johnstone's contract to extend for another year. They have no intention of playing him, but know they will get a bigger fee. Also means they are unlikely to sell him in Jan. I think the only chance we have of keeping hold of him next year is to get promoted. Otherwise you would have to think an EPL team will come in for him.

I hope this may be helpful to any Villa fans travelling by road to Derby for the game on 16th December, parking is available for away supporters on 2 sites [100 and 400 yards from the stadium] at £6 per car/van. In my opinion the best approach is via the M42/A42 giving you 2 approach options to Pride Park, if you leave the A42 at the A6 exit you travel via Alvaston [London Road]. On reaching the Derby ring road island go straight across in the left hand lane and then stay in the left hand lane and proceed along London Road to the next island, here you should turn right [signposted to Pride Park >>>] and go to the next island and turn right, go past the front of the stadium to the next island [opposite the Clough/Taylor statue], go straight across into RIVERSIDE ROAD, about 60 yards on the right is the FRENGER SYSTEMS car park, this is ideal for the elderly and less agile supporters. For those who may wish to eat/drink before the game, continue along Riverside Road to the last unit on the left hand side, the PRIDE VETERINARY CENTRE car park, this is handier for the away friendly hostelries, ask one of the attendants for details. You can also approach via M42/A42/M1/A52 [Jct25], on the A52 go about 1 mile past the SPONDON/ASDA exit and leave at the << PRIDE PARK slip road, take care as there is a pedestrian crossing immediately after the sharp bend. Go to the 3rd island and turn right into Riverside Road. At the moment there are road works [narrow lanes] near the Pride Park exit slip road, hopefully they will be gone by matchday. I hope this helps, have a safe journey.

Onomah has been getting a fair bit of critism on Twitter & some of the other web sites with suggestions he should be dropped for a few games & others given a chance . Problem is that he's almost like 2 different players & you never know which you've got untill he steps on the pitch If we can battle our way to 12-15 points from the next 5 games we'll be in a good position for the rest of the season , then we need to think about next season & refining the squad & it's tactics

I woudn't know how well Leeds played to gain their lead, but if the 2nd half is anything to go by the standard of play in the 1st wasn't anything special. So underwhelmed seems apt. From our perspective hopefully it's a blip in what's been a good run. Whilst not particularly imaginative or outstanding Bruce has the team playing with some degree of understanding and, for me, we're yet to see if that will progress, or if we can apply it against the better teams in the division. We've seen how anonymous highly regarded players can become when put in a new environment countless times in football. Right now what shouldn't be overlooked is under Bruce we are getting the results to be in the mix for automatic promotion. Whether we will see more dominant/stylish displays under Bruce, or if Wolves/Cardiff will slip up is all unknown for now. It was good to see Grealish and Lansbury both have an impact having not featured regularly.

This might be an interesting reply: A Leeds fan perspective via Birmingham Mail. "I was left feeling slightly underwhelmed by Villa given their recent good form and I think there will be regrets for Leeds, who ultimately ran out of steam in the second half and could not apply the same pressure they did in the opening 45 minutes. But at the same time, when you have substitutes of that quality to call upon, this Villa team are capable of changing a game in a heartbeat - and that's exactly what they did." It's an obvious thing to say really but shouldn't we be getting more out of this squad of players, or at the very least some kind of obvious identity as a team? "Underwhelmed" is an interesting choice of words, as if to say - why are this team doing well?

Bit harsh on Bruce I think. I suppose when you look at the 50+ then it puts your point of view in to perspective. I still think that he's doing well, without setting the league alight. We're competitive and rightfully 4th placed in the league. Arguably, improving. Whilst we bought the best of the division, it's still of the division, and therefore to be expected that we will be challenged by our competition. Our injury list puts us on par with other teams for talent. I'm not really sure we're on the same page as far as a confusing brand of football goes, could you elaborate? I actually find Bruce to be, from my understanding of football, quite textbook and predictable for the most part. There have been moments against lesser opposition where ingenuity is present, but I have to wonder if that's Bruce or the players simply enjoying some freedom. I think what gives defintion to successful tacticians (at least from an attacking play pov) is the ability to refine something a little bit unique, that and/or clinical. I don't think Bruce will ever be the former but would be open to the idea of him building a team that can be the latter. The main factor which would have me agreeing with your sentiments for post season, is that I assume (and kind of hope) that we will be more dependent on the team skills and chemistry we develop this season, to carry us through a return season in the PL, than we will be on aquiring new talent. I'm open to the idea that Bruce proves me wrong but I just feel that he is the perfect man to take us out of this league, but success in the PL without buying the best of that league too, might be asking too much. The point of my post was to say that I don't think we can level much criticism at Bruce right now. There's two teams which have categorically outgunned us and they both sit above us and I don't think it's beyond Bruce to turn that around come the second half of the season. Didn't see the first half against Leeds, but what I saw of the 2nd half from my shitty stream was a performance that deserved to be a goal ahead, and was far from our best. Which gives me hope that this team can take it up a few notches as the season progresses, which is exactly what we need. Can Bruce ensure that potential comes good? In this league, I think so.

Watched most of the first half. We have been very much second best so far. Some really poor performances from Samba, Onomha and Snoddy so far. SB needs to make an impact at HT. Maybe Jack for Onomah.

think it was precautionary he came off early mid week as well & Bruce mention Jedi but not Davis post match . Jedi's injury is to shoulder & not a repeat of groin problem so hopefully not serious

One thing I think Bruce needs credit for and for myself especially really went unnoticed, we've only lost 2 league games since August 19th. That's a lot of games and only losing twice since the 19th, that's an impressive record. And while they're a bit frustrating, we're not pulling a Sheff Utd, it's win or lose with them which is a very dangerous game to play.

Great result as we need to be picking up 3 points in these games. Bruce said we were awful and it was a difficult game. Look's like both Avon's and Dan's league table positions could be spot on for November, up to 4th!

Avillan the stream issues were not resolved which was a pain but to their credit they were about 90 seconds of extra time when they sent the notification that I would be refunded. I agree it is brilliant that the stream is made available by the club. Being in Australia I was a little panic stricken when we were relegated that I wouldn't be able to watch Villa. With this available it makes for some amazing father, Sons football nights. Fingers crossed it will be right for Sunderland! Great result though, if Davis can get on the score sheet he will be the best young player we have had in my time supporting Villa!

Tricky couple of games coming up with this and Sunderland on Tuesday under Chris Coleman. We could be mired around midtable, or lurk menacingly in the playoff spots.

Mile Jedinak scored two penalties and forced an own goal as Australia reached next year's World Cup at the expense of Honduras following a 3-1 aggregate victory. A goalless draw in Honduras on Friday saw the intercontinental play-off head to a winner-takes-all tie in Sydney on Wednesday. And it was Aston Villa midfielder Jedinak who spearheaded Australia's charge to the World Cup, in what will be their fourth straight appearance at the tournament. Following a cagey first half, Jedinak's free-kick deflected off Henry Figueroa after 54 minutes to put the Socceroos in front. Jedinak then buried two penalties in the space of 13 minutes to put daylight between themselves and Honduras. The visitors did score a late consolation through Alberth Elis, but the nation ultimately fell at the final hurdle, missing out on the World Cup having featured at the last two in South Africa and Brazil respectively.

^^ In reality we found out why he couldn't make the first team at Bournemouth. And for me also highlights our 'grass is always greener' transfer policy. Was Elphick better than any of the centrebacks we already had at the club at the time, like Clark or Baker? One of them plays in the Premier league whilst the other plays for our rivals. Elphick couldn't find a move elsewhere and is 4th or 5th choice at a Championship club. Surely there's an academy prospect that we can promote instead of ignore until they leave?

I wonder if SB will heed his own advice this weekend and play fresh players? After the last two international breaks we have had poor performances and SB has said he should have changed things up. I don't see it happening but I think this team would do the job this weekend: Johnstone Elmo Chester Suliman Taylor Whelan Snodgrass Grealish Hourihane Adoman Davis Both Whelan and Hourihane were away with Ireland this week, but neither played many minutes so should be fresh. I think SB will put Samba in place of Terry but this is the ideal time to blood a younger player, look at the experience that would be playing alongside him! Chester one side, Taylor the other and Whelan in front.
