    November League Position?

I'm a month early for this threads revival probably, but it would seem like Bruce is here beyond November. Apart from a bad loss to ladder leaders Cardiff, and Reading, a slow start in general, can't say I have any issues with him being in charge. I don't like his interviews when the chips are down but we're all human and I think he is keeping things in perspective after a good run. No idea what goes on at the all important training ground, but I think if Bruce has a bit more confidence in himself than he was showing we might be better placed to bounce back from the inevitable disappointments that will crop up. He has every chance of success and a job with what should be a prosperous club to be at, I hope he enjoys what he describes as his hardest job yet. I'm sure it will have its pressures and challenges but I'd rather be backed by Xia at Aston Villa than get Hull or Birmingham promoted. So I hope he drops the attitude that his record speaks for itself this and Villa coming out of a big rut that and owns what happens from here. What's gone on at the club has been a football nightmare, but Bruce has what he needs to succeed and no reason to affiliate our recent past with his experience at Villa. I could be way off the mark there, I don't spend any time at the club, but that's how I see it. He's made excellent signings imo, gifted far more than his rivals in that respect, so I hope he makes the most of it and gives us something to cheer about when it comes to any future discussions regarding his position. Still irks me that I read that he says he, "doesn't do tactics" but even if he did say that, I'm getting the impression he's better at football than he is at talking, and that's fine with me. I've been impressed with some of our play and despite the league we're in, that's not something I've associated with us as a team since Houllier. Football is a difficult sport to expose the gaps in quality between two sides imo, basketball you can lose by 20-30 points on a bad day, AFL 70-100.. All it takes is a bad deflection and you're 1-0 down in football. So I'm going to give SB the benefit of the doubt in regards to our lesser efforts so far. From what I've seen there's more quality and potential than there is cause for concern. If the worst thing that happens this season is a 3-0 loss to the form side of the competition and a slow start then we're in good hands. I know there's a long way to go, but any doubts and uncertainty I've had about Bruce are on hold for now. As for November and the 4 games leading up to, I would be okay with wins against Bolton and Birmingham as a minimum but could also handle us winning all 4. Haven't seen wolves play since they were in the PL but I expect Bruce to be looking at all 4 matches as an opportunity for 3 points. I was in the give Lambert time camp wayyyy longer than he earned on merit because I thought he was going to emulate what he did with Norwich. I'm getting those feels with Bruce except this time there's some evidence already he is suitable for our club and position. Which is a relief and combined with the nutty go getter that Xia seems to be I'm mildly optimistic about what's to come from Villa.

    Villa vs Fulham

35% - 65% at home to Fulham. It's a genuine question really... If we're not a possession-based team, or a counter attacking team, then, what is it that we do other than hope against hope for a lucky break?

Your in early with this thread Tanser, good to see you My heart says 4-1 Villa, my head says a draw. I have had so much fun winding up the Dingles at work. Telling them it means much more to them than to us. as they are just a small club. They all hate us but we don't give them a second thought. We land in Gran Canaria at 4:30 on Saturday. By the time we have got to our digs it will be nearly over. I have mentioned to Mrs T that we may get to see the second half in a bar. She thinks I am a comedian, actually she said. "going to watch football an hour into our holiday. Are you fucking joking"

    November League Position?

Top post AVillan. You're currently blazing a trail for the moderates on this site. Bruce will be here for the season now as he's proved he can bounce back with good results after periods of dross. Though it's interesting to hear that he told Redknapp he was one defeat away (to Barnsley) from the sack. The true test of our mettle will come against our rivals at the top of course, as it's these games that'll decide playoffs or automatic promotion. This is where the top managers thrive with tactical nous, and why we've struggled against all the good teams under Bruce, you could argue. Let's see I guess. Maybe 8th was right. Maybe 2nd spot was bang on the money.

I'd say it goes a little bit further back than the signings of McCormack, Elphick etc. As you say we've been relegated due to inability to hold on to players and then replace them, but more importantly an inability to build a team. Players like Young (10million on CNZ as replacement), Barry, Milner, Benteke, Delph etc. were sold at pivotal times in the where to for the club, it's been the difference between being a team in Europe to a team relegated. As Dan says, it's obvious that being able to look within the club is a win-win. I really hope they get this model that has been touted right, would be great to see Villa with a philosophy, direction and inclusive of youth. Edit: Agree that I don't think Bruce is necessarily expected to oversee said revolution. He has been employed to get us promotion. As long as he does that and the club take charge of the long term I'm happy. I get the vibe that perhaps there's as much hype as there is substance but at least by announcing it we're building expectation and a need for accountability. I think Xia is a very clever man and it wouldn't surprise me if his ambitions of European football do eventuate, perhaps not as quickly as he thought.

    International Villans

Birkir Bjarnason scored as Iceland defeated Turkey 3-0 in World Cup qualifying away in Eskişehir. Bjarnason was joined on the scoresheet by Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson and Kári Árnason. Heimir Hallgrímsson men are top of Europe Group I with 19 points from nine games and now face a home clash on Monday October 9 as they take on Kosovo at Laugardalsvöllur in Reykjavík, kick-off 7.45pm. James Chester played the full 90 minutes while Neil Taylor was an unused sub as Wales earned a valuable 1-0 win in Georgia thanks to Tom Lawrence's thunderous second-half strike. Glenn Whelan, Scott Hogan and Conor Hourihane were all unused subs as Republic of Ireland won 2-0 at home to Moldova courtesy of two Daryl Murphy goals. That now sets up a mouth-watering clash on Monday as Republic of Ireland face Wales at Cardiff City Stadum, kick-off 7.45pm. It could mean five Villans on the same pitch as the two teams battle it out in Europe Group D. Serbia are top with 18 points, Wales are second with 17 points, while the Republic are third with 16 – all have played nine matches. The eight best second-placed teams from the nine groups enter the play-offs, and victory in Cardiff will guarantee Martin O'Neill's side second spot. However, if Serbia lose at home to Georgia, the Republic - ranked 34th in the world - would top the group with victory over Wales. Robert Snodgrass was an unused sub as Scotland kept their World Cup qualifying hopes alive in dramatic fashion as a late Martin Skrtel own goal gave them victory over 10-man Slovakia. Victory over Slovenia on Sunday - kick-off 5pm at Stadion Stožice in Ljubljana - will now secure Scotland second place, and the chance of reaching the play-offs. England – who also won 1-0 – qualified for the World Cup after finishing top of Europe Group F. Jonathan Kodjia played 90 minutes for Ivory Coast in their 0-0 in Mali. The goalless draw at Stade 26 Mars in Bamako sees Ivory Coast top of Africa Group C with eight points from five games. Ahmed Elmohamady is with Egypt as they square off against Congo in a home encounter at Borg El Arab Stadium on Sunday October 8, kick-off 6pm. Finally, in Euro U21 qualifying action, Josh Onomah scored a wonder goal in England’s 3-1 over Scotland at the Riverside Stadium. The other goals were scored by Tammy Abraham and Dominic Solanke. Me again then Only got 20/1 on my bet today . Shows we are on the up, or playing another team we should beat. I know beating teams like this does not really show if we have improved. But they are the 3 pointers we must get in the bag. Come on you Villa. Have to go holiday shopping with Mrs T, so will miss the first 45 mins.

    November League Position?

Results have actually gone pretty well for us since we picked up. Wolves losing mid week is big, as is Leeds getting thumped at the weekend. Ultimately, this is a tight league. Well, its a poor league if we're being honest. We still haven't really hit anything like top gear and we're sitting just outside the playoffs. Wolves game is our first real massive game of the season. They generally play good football and we struggled against them last season. Bruce will be safe by November. He's shown he can get good results when not playing great. We're a threat and solid enough now. I'd always like to see us dominating games because I don't think this league is a good enough standard to not do that (pretty sure that's a really poorly written sentence, but you get the idea). In the grand scheme of things, if we're in contention by the end of the year, we've got a really good chance. If we keep churning out the results with a settled team then there's every chance it'll all click and we'll go on to dominate teams and get promotion. I'll stick by my prediction of 4th for November.

http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/how-aston-villa-transformed-academy-13656371 Good to hear that the club has finally woken up to the obvious benefit of not suppressing youthful talent, just a shame it took relegation and an unsustainable wage bill to see sense. Not entirely convinced that Di Matteo or Bruce were bought in to oversee this revolution though. Seems more likely that a combination of zero return from a big outlay on players like McCormack, Hogan, Elphick et al and injury has paved the way for some of the youth so far.

^^ Be amazed if that's true. If it's over money, then we should let him go, unless he gets a new agent and apologises about his greed and naivety. If he doesn't fancy building a career at Villa, then, again, let him go.

Great result and great to see Mr Gale back Indeed we are up to the dizzy heights of 7th. Unbeaten(league games) since 15th August away to Reading. 5 clean sheets in our last 6 outings, yoof being played. Referee was apparently shocking with even the great Dr wondering if he is an "AVhater"! Massive 3 points really even if Bolton is bottom, pissing down with rain, dodgy ref and its Bolton. Fair play Villa. Yep, 100 point and 100 goals still on, jimmys first goal of his 20+. Kodjia peno: https://mobile.twitter.com/avfc_vilr/status/914138155485417473/video/1 Gonna be loaded at the end of this season go on the mighty Villa

I think this is the sort of game that defines whether or not we are improving. If we have serious ambitions of promotion this year then picking up three points against teams we should be beating is exactly what we need to be doing. This is the sort of match where in the past we draw or lose and bang goes our confidence and morale. If we win today it shows how much progress we have made. I hope people who wanted Bruce out are learning to be more patient now.

I pulled out from partnering with Villa View because they accepted initial investment from myself and then didn't involve me in things going forward. So I removed all their content and blocked them. I'm going to stick with it now, so will invest more time once I've got to grips with the new software.

That’s a great result. When was the last time we scored 7 away from home in two games? Happy to be moving up the table. Need to keep this up now. Should be be another win against Bolton on sat. Could be in the play off positions by Saturday night.

Sorry guys, have to admit.. I haven't spent nearly enough time on here and communication/ direction has of course waned. I have invested in new software this month, beefed up the security and hope to make it a little bit more aesthetically pleasing. The month downtime was partial due to hackers, who continually tried to delete content and wreck havoc, this was dealt with and I've since invested in sitelock and SSL certification. I've had two girls the last few years, coupled with job promotions and relocations, it's not been the easiest of times to allocate time. Deepest apologies and I'm extremely grateful to those of you who have stuck around.

Nice to see the site up and running again. Always nice to get a win and we are on a decent run in the league now. For me success for SB is averaging 2 points a game. That's what's required for automatic promotion and we are still some way off that. Win the next two and we will be looking up. I think the return of Kodija is massive. No coincidence we have been winning since he came back.

Adomah again! Nothing like being frozen out of the entire squad in favour of poorer performing players to fire you up I guess. I mean, you *could* even argue that Bruce is a genius at upsetting all our best players to get the best out of them!
