Just when you’re in your comfort zone with Villa, and their form and positivity overflows from your veins, we have a moment like we did on Saturday evening where a sudden injection of realism slaps you straight in the face and knocks you for six.

Wolves played well and looked the best ‘unit’ of all teams that we have faced so far this season, but that doesn’t nullify the fact that we lost in every department and looked devoid of direction, attitude and togetherness. Let’s not go for the wrists just yet though, we did go nine games unbeaten and are still a whisker away from the playoff positions… despite not setting the world alight. The problem is we should be setting the world alight, and apart from Barnsley away, we haven’t controlled enough of the ball so far this season to breed that undying confidence!

Don’t forget, this is the second tonking that we have received by a team in the top 6, Cardiff away still leaves painful scars.

We head into the weekend looking for a positive result to take into the Birmingham derby the following Sunday. Fulham’s form though has peaked recently, going four unbeaten and looking a threat, mainly due to Jokanovic’s positive approach to life in the capital. Suggestions that this will be an easier game are fantasy, if anything, this result has more pressure on it then any that have proceeded. This is Bruce’s’ chance to either prove that the Wolves result is a blip or that we have slipped back into our nervy ways.

Either way, facing Cotterill’s rejuvenated Blues team the week after will not be the time for hesitance. A derby is always an unpredictable affair, but being nestled in the top six will take away a lot of the nerves pre-match.

So let’s show our statement of intent Steve. Set up to beat Fulham, let’s not worry about their strengths, and get the result we need!
